Title: Pass the test.
“And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.””II Kings 2:9 NKJV.
The story of how Elijah was taken away from Elisha teaches us about the power of commitment to a vision. Elisha was given opportunities to abandon Elijah on a number of occasions,at Gilgal, at Bethel, at Jericho and at Jordan. (2Kings 2:1-7). On each occasion he declared "As the Lord lives I will not leave you." After passing his tests, Elijah asked the question that gave Elisha a blank cheque. "Ask what may I do for you before I am taken away from you?"
Point of reflection:
Elisha's heart was right with God and with his Pastor and mentor. He was totally sold out to the will of God and to accomplishing His purpose. He thought for a second, if Elijah is taken away from me then I must continue with his work. Therefore I need a special anointing. Elisha did not struggle much to get an answer- he asked for a double portion of the spirit which one upon Elijah so that he could do even better-His mind wad focused onto doing the will of God. As Matthew 6:33 says “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Do you desire to seek first the kingdom of God always? Getting it right in moments like this is by the grace of God so that is what you need to plead for. When you are ready-
Prayer of consecration:
Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank you for sending your Son to suffer and die for me. I acknowledge the risen Jesus Christ as Lord of my life today. I reject every working of the enemy satan and every demonic oppression upon my life in the name of Jesus Christ. I ask you Father in the name of Jesus Christ to fill me with your Holy Spirit right now. I pray for your grace to be multiplied upon my life that I may always seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, knowing that everything else will be added to me. In Jesus Christ's name I pray. Amen.
