You will need to understand that when Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood,
He did so, so that you may gain access into the presence of the Almighty God.
For the scriptures say
“He made Him who knew no sin (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us so that we may
become the righteousness of God in Him. (IICorinthians 5:21 NKJV).
“For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart
that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved. (Romans 10:9).
“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son so that
whosoever believes in Him should not perish, come to destruction but have everlasting, eternal life “ John 3:16).
“Nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven
given to man by which we may be saved except the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 4:12).
”For Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures” (I Corinthians 15:3).
So then righteousness means being in right standing with God, or having His approval.
This comes by knowing and believing the sacrifice that His Son Jesus Christ
gave when He suffered and died on the Cross of Calvary.
One then needs to repent (That is to agree with God as to what is right and wrong, to align oneself with His word).
For the Scripture says .”Unless you repent you will likewise perish” Luke 13:3.
Then call on the name of the Lord for the scriptures say:
“Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” Romans 10:13.
N 1.2 :The Prayer for Salvation
The following prayer will guide you if you pray it sincerely from your heart:
Father in heaven I thank you that you sent your Son Jesus Christ
to die for me on the cross and to shed His blood that my sin may be forgiven.
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died and rose again on the third day.
I repent from all my sin today.
I open my heart to you Lord Jesus and I ask you today to come into my life,
to forgive my sin and to make me a child of God.
From today I acknowledge you Jesus as Lord of my life.
Thank you Lord for hearing my prayer.
Thank you Lord for forgiving my sin.
Thank you Lord Jesus for coming into my life and making me a child of God.
From today I will live for you. In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.
This prayer when prayed sincerely from your heart ushers you into the presence of God,
all your past mistakes are forgiven and you receive eternal life.
N 1.3: How will I know I have received salvation?
You may ask –how do I know I have received salvation, that my sin is forgiven,
that I have been received into His presence, that I have received eternal life?
You will know by faith that is by believing His promises-
because He made a promise that anyone who comes to Him He will never say no.
John 6:37 says ”All that the Father gives Me will come to Me
and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.”
He also says in 1 John 5: 13
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God,
that you may know that you have eternal life,
and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”
Finally understand that God cannot lie for the scriptures say in Titus 1:2
”In hope of eternal life which God , who cannot lie promised before time began.”
In other words when you believe in the name of Jesus you need to have assurance that you have eternal life.
That assurance is from faith alone- by believing His promises.
Almighty God wants you to know that you have eternal life after you have believed on Jesus Christ-
these things have I written to you who believe- that you may know you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)
N 1.4 With Salvation comes eternal life
Righteousness or right standing with God brings with it other important benefits.
These include eternal life, forgiveness of sin, regeneration or being born again, sonship (see also N3),
redemption(see also N4).
When you believe on the Lord Jesus and the sacrifice He made for you on the cross,
repent from your sin and call upon His name to invite the Lord Jesus Christ
to become Lord of your life you also receive eternal life.
In Matthew 25:46 the Lord Jesus said:
“And these will go into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
John 3:16 above tells us that when we believe in Jesus we receive eternal life.
In Romans 5:21 we read:
“So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through
righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
In the Lord Jesus Christ therefore we receive righteousness which leads to eternal life.
Romans 6:23 also tells us “For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
In 1 John 5:11-13 His word says:
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has life and he who does not have the Son does not have life.
13 These things have I written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God,
that you may know that you have eternal life,
and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God”.
It is important to understand that eternal life does not begin after one dies;
it begins here on earth after receiving salvation through Jesus Christ, and it is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ said in John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus
Christ whom You have sent.
Eternal life is therefore the knowledge and experience of God.
To know God you need to experience His power-the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ
(Philippians 3:10), His peace which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7),
His joy inexpressible (1Peter 1:8) and His love which passes all knowledge Ephesians 3:19).
N 1.5 With salvation comes forgiveness of sin.
When one believes on the Lord Jesus Christ and the sacrifice
He made on the cross for mankind when He died and rose again from the dead,
repents from sin and calls on the name of the Lord their past mistakes
or wrong doing before God are cancelled. In other words all their sins are forgiven.
Whatever those sins might have been.
Luke 24:46-47 says “Then He (Lord Jesus Christ) said to them,
“Thus it is written and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer
and rise from the dead the third day,
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem.
In Ephesians 1:7 the word also says:
“In Him (Lord Jesus Christ) we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
In Isaiah 1:18 His word also says:
“Come now, let us reason together”, says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool”.
It is the desire of God to forgive the sins of His people who turn to Him in repentance and in faith.
N 1.6 Salvation is a gift of Almighty God to you- it is for free- receive it by faith alone.
The word of God teaches us that God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son.
1 John 5:11-12 (NKJV): And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Therefore if God has given, we need to know how to receive it by believing in Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) tells us: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Romans 6:23 (NKJV) tells us: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Jesus Christ our Lord.
When you work for something, it is a wage/ salary. A gift is given for free. We are saved by grace- its a free gift of God
grace is an unmerited, undeserved favour, grace is activity on the side of God that gives us advantage.
You are saved by believing on the sacrifice which Jesus Christ did for you when He suffered, shed His blood and died
on the cross. You believe also that God raised Him from the dead.
N 1.7 The package of Salvation.
The Oxford dictionary defines salvation as:
“Deliverance from sin and its consequences and admission to heaven”.
The word of God says in 1Timothy 1:15:
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief”.
We have also already seen above Romans 10:9:
“For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.”
And also John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son so
that whosoever believes in Him should not perish,
come to destruction but have everlasting, eternal life “
Also, Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name
under heaven given to man by which we may be saved except the name of Jesus Christ”
Salvation then is to be made complete in spirit,
(by being regenerated, being made alive again by the Spirit of God on the inside)
in soul (which is the mind and the seat of the intellect, emotions, the will and conscience)
as well as in the body (being healed and delivered from sickness and disease).
Salvation also includes deliverance from the consequences
of judgement which includes poverty and lack.
It includes as well deliverance from demon spirits and bondage
imposed on us by the enemy which includes substance misuse alcoholism,
tobacco and illicit drugs, deliverance from familiar spirits
and spirits of witchcraft, horoscopes and every form of Satanism. (see also N4 Redemption).
