Summary:
Your God
needs you to be His extension on the earth as you bring the good tidings
of redemption through Jesus Christ to
your family, friends, colleagues, community, nation and indeed the whole Planet
Earth. He needs you to be a witness of Jesus Christ's saving, healing and
delivering power on the earth and in our day. A witness speaks, or testifies
what they have seen, heard and experienced- in short a witness is a story
teller. Go therefore and tell a story of what you have seen, what you have
heard and what you have experienced. Underpin the story with the word of God.
Remember you are an ambassador of Jesus Christ on Planet Earth. Always cry for
the grace to be ready to tell a story of what Jesus Christ has done for you and
for others, and underpin the story to the word of God. The word of God never
returns without having accomplished the purpose and mission for which it will
have been sent. Simply deliver it. You will have done your bit. Remember that
there is a reward for witnessing Jesus Christ- reward of joy, peace, wellbeing,
divine protection and of a glory of God that will always follow you in all you
do and wherever you go.
Covered in this section:
1.You are witnesses to these things
2. You are an ambassador of Jesus
Christ
3. Tells a story and underpin it
to the word of God
4. Blood required at your hands
5. The reward for witnessing
You are witnesses to these things
You were
commissioned by Jesus Christ to be a witness to Him. In Luke 24: 46-49 His word says : Then He said to them, “Thus it is
written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from
the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are
witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you;
but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on
high.” NKJV.
Jesus Christ
commissioned every believer who has experienced His salvation to go tell a story.
Two
disciples on the road to Emmaus met a supposed stranger:
“Then the one whose name was Cleopas
answered and said to Him, 'Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You
not known the things which happened there in these days?' And He said to them,
'What things?' So they said to Him, 'The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth,
who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and
how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death,
and crucified Him." Luke 24:18-20 NKJV.
The disciple
named here as Cleopas started telling a story he had heard, little did he know
he was talking to Jesus Christ Himself. When Jesus Christ revealed Himself to
these two, they immediately returned to Jerusalem to the other disciples to
tell the story of how Jesus Christ had appeared to them- they became witnesses
of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. While they spoke their witness account,
Jesus Christ appeared again.
The Apostle
Peter addressing the crowds on the day of Pentecost gave a witness account:
"Men of Israel, hear these
words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders,
and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—
Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you
have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised
up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He
should be held by it.
This Jesus God has raised up, of
which we are all witnesses.”
Acts 2:22-24, 32 NKJV.
Now a
witness speaks what they have seen, heard and experienced.
Hence 1 John 1: 1-3 NKJV says:
“That which was from the beginning,
which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked
upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was
manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal
life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen
and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and
truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.”
The story
you tell does not have to all be about yourself- you have experienced Jesus
Christ, yes speak about that- others have been healed, delivered, raised from
the dead etc. you are free to speak about what Almighty God has done to them
too. You are a witness to what you have heard people say God has done to them.
These are undeniable miracles. If you can bring your friend, colleague to hear
a first hand account of an undeniable miracle by all means do so.
The critical
thing here is give an account, tell a story about yourself or about someone
else. Remember to underpin the story to the word of God.
2. You are an ambassador of Jesus
Christ.
“Now all things are of God, who has
reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of
reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to
Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the
word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God
were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to
God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the
righteousness of God in Him.”
II Corinthians 5:18-21 NKJV.
An
ambassador, represents and promotes the affairs of nation or state that
commissioned them. We need to declare to
people that Almighty God has unilaterally
reconciled Himself to them through Jesus Christ. He has unilaterally
cancelled their debt and guilt by laying it on His own Son Jesus Christ. All
they need to do is accept and acknowledge what Almighty God has done for them.
They need to know God has loved them in Jesus Christ, He also likes them, He is
not even in a bad mood. He has opened His arms to embrace and receive them
wholeheartedly and unconditionally. They need to acknowledge the sacrifice He
made for them in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was made their sin, their guilt,
their debt so that they can become the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ.
They have been put in right standing with Almighty God, they have been given a
right hand of fellowship. Their sin, disease and sicknesses and lack has been paid for by Jesus Christ's
sacrifice and suffering.
We need to
explain the other attributes of Almighty God- He is righteous and just, He is
holy, He is merciful, He is faithful. His word says in Psalms 89:14:
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation
of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.”NKJV.
His word
also says in Lamentations 3:22-23
"Through the LORD’s mercies we
are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.” NKJV.
His word
tells us further that He is good.
“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.”
I Chronicles 16:34 NKJV.
3.Tell a story and underpin it to the
word of God.
A witness tells a story-we all want to hear a
story. A story could start something like "Have you heard about....? Have
you heard what happened .....? Tell
about Jesus Christ, or tell about yourself and what Jesus Christ did in your
life or about someone else and what Jesus Christ did for them. Then underpin
the story to the word of God. By that you are saying- this happened to this
person because he/ she believed the word of God. If you can believe the same
will happen to you too.
Jesus Christ
the Son of God was manifested to take away the sin of the world, He shed His
blood so that you and me may be forgiven. His word says in John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever
believes in Him, should not perish but have eternal life." KJV.
Jesus Christ
was manifested to give you eternal life.
Whosoever
means whosoever- if you can believe what Jesus Christ did for you - you will
receive His salvation.
Jesus Christ
was manifested to give you abundant life- this speaks of quality of life- to
make you a person of character, stature, achievement and self-assurance.
His word
says in John 10:10:
“The thief does not come except to
steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and
that they may have it more abundantly.” NKJV.
The thief is
a reference to the enemy of God and mankind satan- he is a thief, a murderer
and a destroyer- Jesus Christ was manifested to reverse that and give you abundant life, overflowing
life:
Jesus Christ
gives you right standing with Almighty God- He makes you the righteousness of
God- ushering you into the presence of Almighty God- in His presence there is
joy, peace and wellbeing (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Jesus Christ
bought back your right of dominion over the enemy satan- He bought back by His
own blood your right of dominion over satan. Hence Ephesians 1:7 says:
"In Him we have redemption
through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace” NKJV.
Jesus Christ
bought back your right to health and well- being by the beating He experienced,
the pain, grief and anguish. Hence Isaiah
53:4-5says:
“Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was
our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a
punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our
rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was
whipped so we could be healed.” NLT.
I Peter 2:24 reiterates it.
“Whom Himself bore our sins in His
own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for
righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed.” NKJV.
Jesus Christ
suffered lack -so that your needs may be met. Hence His word says in
2
Corinthians 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though
He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty
might become rich.” NKJV.
Jesus Christ
bought back to you the right to blessing and positive outcomes through the
in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit upon your life-His word says in Galatians 3:14:
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of
the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone
who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the
Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith.” NKJV.
4. Blood required at your hands.
“When I say
to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak
to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man
shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.”
Ezekiel 3:18
NKJV.
Yes when you
are given the opportunity to witness the love of Jesus Christ and you do not do
it, it may cost someone heaven, it maty cost someone eternal life. Remember it is the Holy Spirit who convicts
the sinner of sin, righteousness and judgement.
“And when He has come (the Holy
Spirit), He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of
judgment:”
John 16:8 NKJV.
The
conviction can happen immediately you speak the word to a non- believer but
sometimes it happens many years later, it could even happen at their end of
life event.
Remember the
word of God never returns void, it always accomplishes that which it is sent to
accomplish -always.
“For as the rain comes down, and the
snow from heaven,
And do not return there, But water
the earth, And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, But
it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for
which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11 NKJV.
Because the
word of God has capacity to accomplish its mission- you can sent it addressed
"to whom it may concern".
Be prepared
always- being prepared should be your footwear.
"And having shod your feet with
the preparation of the gospel of peace;”
Ephesians 6:15 NKJV.
When you
walk prepared to tell the story, to witness the love of Jesus Christ- the word
of God describes your feet as beautiful:
"How beautiful upon the
mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good
things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion, 'Your God
reigns!'"
Isaiah 52:7 NKJV.
Wow!
Proclaiming glad tidings of good things, bringing good news and proclaiming
peace, proclaiming salvation- not only makes your feet beautiful- but takes you
up to the top of the mountains. Yes
there is a reward for witnessing.
5.The reward for witnessing.
His word
says in Daniel 12:3:
“Those who are wise shall shine like the
brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the
stars forever and ever.” NKJV.
For the
child of God wisdom is in turning many to righteousness- its the greatest
investment you can ever do. The dividends will follow you to all eternity.
There is a glory of Almighty God that follows soul winners.
His word
also says in Isaiah 55:12:
“For you shall go out with joy, and
be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into
singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
NKJV.
There is a
joy and peace that follows soul winners. This is the same joy that propelled
the Lord Jesus Christ through the cross. For His word teaches us that beyond
the cross was a joy, the joy of billions of people, you and me going to heaven.
His word teaches that for the joy that was set before Him, Jesus Christ endured
the cross and despised the shame. Glory to God. (Hebrews 12:1-3).
Being a witness of Jesus Christ therefore brings
with it a reward of joy, which no-one can take away from you. It brings peace,
protection, exaltation and elevation, it brings grace and a glory. It brings a
fortification from Almighty God. Glory be to God.
