Need 3 : Understanding Sonship

Summary: When you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died to deliver you from sin and eternal damnation, that He rose again and is alive today, and you repent from sin (agree with God as to what is right and wrong, align yourself with His word) and then call on His name and ask Him to come into your life and to become your Lord you become righteous before God (see N1), you receive forgiveness of sin, you receive eternal life, you are regenerated (born again, made alive again in your spirit) you are redeemed (see N4)and you are adopted to be come a child of God and a son of God (whether male or female). You now have the rights of a child of God. You become a member of God’s own household. You have the authority of a son of God.You have the inheritance of a son of God, the most important of the inheritance is eternal life. You become an heir to the throne of God and joint heir with Jesus Christ.

N3.1 You received the right, power and privilege to be a child of God.

When you receive Jesus as Lord of your life, understand the sacrifice He made for you when He died, shed His blood for you and rose again from the dead on the third day you also need to understand that you became an adopted child of God, you became a member of God’s household, an heir to the throne of God and joint heir with Jesus Christ the Son of God. You therefore have received an inheritance in God’s household the most important of which is eternal, everlasting life. God is now your Father and you have the rights of a son (whether male or female). John 1:12 says “But as many as received Him (Jesus Christ), to them He gave the right, the power and the privilege to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”(AMP)

N3.2 You were adopted to be a child of God.

Romans 8:15 says “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out ‘Abba, Father’”. Fear is one of the greatest weapons Satan uses against mankind but when you realise God is your Father who has unlimited abilities all your fears should flee.

N3.3 You are heir of God and joint heir with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:16-17 says “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (NKJV) An heir of God and joint heir with Christ- that speaks of authority and ruler-ship. Authority over every negative circumstance in your life and authority over every demon spirit of the enemy. You have the authority to speak to command situations to change. In Luke 17:6 the Lord said “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea’ and it would obey you”. In Matthew 17:20 the word says: So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move; and nothing shall be impossible for you”. You have been given the power and authority to change every negative situation you could face.

N3.4 You are God’s own special person, a chosen generation and belong to the royalty of heaven.

1 Peter 2:9 says “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” This is special and you should rejoice and celebrate this every day of your life. Ephesians 2:19 says “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

N3.5 When you pray address God as Father. In Matthew 6:9 the Lord Jesus Christ taught us to address God as our Father “Pray therefore like this: Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name”. Knowing and understanding son-ship is critical as it gives you the expectation to receive from God what a child would expect from a loving Father. This also enables you to command the enemy of God and mankind, Satan to let you go and to let go the things you are entitled to have as the right of a son in God’s household.
